Here, the feature discusses the initial days of Windows 7 in the market and its response among the masses.
Initial Performance
Now, the operating system is present in the market for more than four months, it is a good time to review the performance of the software in the market. Meanwhile, the results are largely positive. According to the company, more than five times people have bought the Windows 7 operating system in the first five days as compared to Windows Vista.
Further, the company added that millions of consumers installed or upgraded with Windows 7, but no major problems have been reported. For security, the company has integrated Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) in Windows 7, which provides a strong foundation against malicious software and virus attacks. Microsoft has also upgraded the BitLocker drive encryption to include the ability to encrypt data on USB thumb drives besides primary operating system volume.
Latest Market Share
At present, Microsoft holds more than ninety percent market share of operating systems. With solid sales and good feedback, the Windows 7's share has tripled in the first hundred days, from 2.15% to more than 6% of the global pie. The demand of Windows 7 is overwhelming and also beat Vista's sales figures. But, still Vista is at number two and XP is leading the market with more than 60% share.
According to research firms, if this trend will go on, Windows 7 will outperform Vista by the end of June 2010 and may touch 20 percent of the global operating system market in its first year. With more than six percent share, the software has already surpassed the share of all the versions of Mac OS X put together. Further, it seems that with Windows 7 will bring 64-bit technology over 32-bit technology as the former is growing 20 percent per month.
Few concerns
It is reported that the Windows 7's gains were largely at the price of Windows XP. However, Windows XP is still ruling the enterprise segment and homes with 66.2% market share, therefore the high prices of the new operating system will certainly discourage up gradation by individuals and firms to buy Windows 7.
Further, the company still not detailed about the release of Windows 7 SP1 (Service Pack 1). Meanwhile, many organizations are still waiting for the SP1 to resolve all the probable compatibility issues with legacy hardware and software.
Discussion
According to a research report, the enterprise segment is ready to accept the new version of Windows 7 operating system from Microsoft and after the launch of SP1 more organizations will switch over to new operating system. Hence, it seems that the Window 7 would follow the legacy of the company to remain on the top.
